An eager start for us today up and out by 8:30 ready to go! We are staying with a couple from Melbourne in Noble Park who we are looking forward to meeting!
Our satnav said we would make beautiful time arriving at 3:45. We knew this wouldn't be the case but it's nice to know it's possible! We planned to do a few stops just to swap driving between us as it is such a long way. To give you an idea it's the same distance between home and Brisbane to home and Melbourne! It took us how many weeks to do that? The difference here is it's not the east coast and there isn't a lot in-between! Nothing but farms and fishing villages really. Because of this we have opted for the highway route. We followed the same route we took to Canberra except this time we stayed on the same road. After this point this is what our satnav said..
So with that we would still be on that road pretty much until we arrived!
Myles started the drive and luckily we had a nice sunny meaning to get us going! We made our first stop an hour in and planned another a bit later for lunch. Myles carried on whilst Laura had a little snooze. I haven't mentioned yet that this is the MOST boring drive in the world. There is nothing to see.. Here's a quote from Myles "Deb and Ian were right in 180k we have seen nothing except some wind turbines and a Renault Megane getting pulled by the police !"
When we stopped for lunch at 12:30. This was leftover BBQ from the night before which was very nice. This was when Laura's driving took over!
(See look proof!)
Laura drove for 160k when the lure of the Golden Arches became to much! You all know what happens next?
Yep it's cone time again!
On a side note whilst we have been driving today we have been in contact with deb and Ian sharing our journeys which has been fun! They are in Osaka in Japan currently for those who are interested.
Another driver swap and we were off again. Myles tried to rest whilst Laura was driving but let's face it he was never going to relax whole he wasn't in control of the car! The rain has now started but good news has arrived. We got a text from Brad one of our hosts who has invited us out to a drive in movie with them this evening which Laura got very excited about as it's something she has always wanted to do! It's like Greece but without the drop top cars...
We had another hours drive according to the satnav which when we hit Melbourne we realised would be at least 2! The traffic was crazy! We weren't even in Central Melbourne & for this we were very glad! We arrived at 6, with our hosts not long behind us. Being very tired an the weather being typically British we gave the movie a rain check hoping it would be better tomorrow. We spent the evening chatting which was great. A tiring start to Melbourne but we are looking forward to seeing more!!
