Leaving Vegas to Death Valley

After Monday night we were up fairly early Tuesday to get out and check out Vegas in the morning before it got too hot. We walked out the front doors of the hotel to desert conditions the early start had failed. Anyways we walked across the road to find some breakfast, we came across an ihop (international house of pancakes) and thought we would take a look, we went in and there was a que so we sat down an looked at the menu, we could then see why there was a lineup however it was rather expensive so we left. McDonald's it was, and $3 later we were happy. Myles has got the hang of free drinks too, ask for a tap water, you then have a cup which you can fill as many times as you like at the drinks station! (Americans seem to have infinite drinks refills at all restaurants)
Breakfast done we got on a hop on hop off bus which runs up the Vegas strip all day we went right to the top of the strip to go shopping and get Myles a nice new shirt to look smart for the casinos. Shopping done we headed back to be strip we went to all the hotels we could before we got the midday sun. It got to about 1oclock and got unbearable so we hid in the hotel and went outside to the pool. A good swim later and we got ready for the evening. We went to the hotel buffet dinner it was a little expensive but as we had been so careful with money we thought we would treat ourselves to a nice dinner as it was just the 2 of us. We ate as much as we could and even took food back to our hotel room. Later on we met up with the group as everyone wanted to go up our hotel tower. Being America we had to go through security to be allowed to do anything. It was nighttime and I wanted to get some amazing photos of the city but apparently camera tripods are offensive weapons even though its carbon fibre and weighs next to nothing but it was confiscated anyway even after asking the security woman that couldn't speak English why I wasn't allowed it, I'm not a Muslim I'm not a terrorist and I don't intend on killing anyone with it. I expressed my displeasure of having this taken slammed it on the desk and walked off. We had a group photo taken and proceeded to accend the tower. It was amazing to see even if I couldn't get any photos. We split from the group at this point and went back to the strip to explore what we missed from the day time. We did all the big ones including Caesars palace and we watched the Bellagio fountains which were amazing. We walked around some more and went into some casinos to have a look around. I went to a bar to ask for a glass of water for the both of us and to my astonishment I was asked for proof of ID?! Being 20 I was declined and was asked to leave the bar! I just wanted a glass of water! Needless to say we left and went to the hotel next door and were quite happily given water. More walking around and we headed back to our hotel for our nights sleep this was about 1 in the morning.
This morning we were up at 7 to leave at 8. Breakfast was some chocolate cookies. We loaded the van and are now heading to Death Valley expected temperature is 50degrees as I'm writing this we are driving past a massively out of control forest fire in the mountains.
Will let you know how Death Valley goes next time we can find some wifi.
Love from us both xx

  1. It's not only America with stringent security measures. At Wimbledon we had to go through airport type scanners only to then have our bags searched manually, at which point our little tripod stools were taken away as they were classed as a 'picnic chair' which are not allowed to be taken into the grounds. Steph and I were not best pleased as we had been sitting on these in the Queue, and not one steward told us that we would not be able to take them into the grounds. We also expressed or displeasure, but it didn't get us anywhere either. Glad to see you are making the most of your trip. I hope Laura is feeling much better. Cant wait for your next update and to see some more pictures. Wishing you a safe journey to Death Valley. All my love to you both. Mum.Xxx
